Roland Unveils First SOLJET Printer/Cutter SOLJET SC-500

Provides up to 3 Years Outdoor Durability Without Lamination

Legendary Roland Quality and Reliability

Hamamatsu, Japan, November 21, 2001 Roland DG Corporation today announced the introduction of its first SOLJET printer/cutter. The state-of-the-art solvent device uses low-volatility Roland SOL INKs that are as easy and safe to use as other water-based inks. The SOLJET produces outstanding color fidelity and brilliant graphics that are water and UV resistant for up to three years outdoors.*

"Over our history, Roland has been known for producing the finest, most innovative signmaking equipment, including the world-s first wide-format print/cut device," said M. Osamura, Roland DG Senior Marketing Manager. "Having studied the entire range of technical requirements and factors in the industry, the SC-500 is our latest solution to meet the outdoor longevity needs of signmakers. It is a completely integrated solution, totally different from a third party who sells only solvent inks," said Osamura.

Without any need for special ventilation or environmental equipment, the SOLJET enables signmakers to print signs and banners without compromises in color or quality at up to 1440 dpi. The graphics are ready to be displayed as soon as the SOLJET finishes printing them. Only the most severe applications, such as floor and vehicle graphics, require lamination.

Roland SOLJET Certified Media (SCM) includes vinyl, canvas, banner, backlit film and - coming soon -- conformable media. SCM is optimized for use with Roland SOL INKs (CMYK+LcLm), which ensure signmakers a safe working environment compared to other solvent inks.

SOLJET Features:

  • Handles media up to 1371 mm (54 inches) wide
  • Roland SOL INKs - low-volatility, quick dry, water and UV resistant
  • Superior -fidelity astounding color reproduction
  • High-performance, high-precision contour cutting
  • ColorChoice® RIP included
  • Overprint feature for printing fabrics
  • Automatic sheet cutter

  • Roland ColorChoice® Software RIP Included

For printing and cutting all kinds of graphics, Roland ColorChoice is the ideal RIP software for today-s signmaker. The software is loaded with print profiles and advanced cutting features especially prepared for the SC-500. It is a true Adobe® PostScript® 3 multi-platform RIP that provides total control over the printing process. With Roland certified media and inks, ColorChoice ensures beautiful, consistent results.

Roland DG Corporation is leading the evolution of sign, graphics arts and 3D modeling industries with innovative hardware and software, and is committed to offering better solutions to transform imagination into reality.

    * Accelerated tests conducted by Roland DG predict three years of outdoor durability for outdoor graphics. Longevity is not warranted.
